Shiraz
Wuppertal, Germany

The Experience
From Michelin Guide
Following its relocation, Shiraz is now housed in Wuppertal's oldest inn, on the grounds of Gut Einern, adjacent to Restaurant Winkelmann. Charming historical details such as the walls made of clay, straw and wooden beams, and the heritage-protected bar have been successfully integrated into this elegant and upscale little restaurant. With proprietor Serkan Akgün bringing his 30+ years of passionate hospitality and a personal touch to the front of house, chef Reyad Danah runs the kitchen, creating a fixed five-course set menu (plus extras) with subtle influences from his Syrian background. His cooking style is cosmopolitan and creative, exciting and varied. Excellent ingredients are transformed into pleasingly pared-down yet robust dishes such as pickled char with hibiscus flowers and mint oil, or mushroom risotto with miso foam, date and tramezzini. The owner will be happy to recommend matching wines personally – his enthusiasm is palpable. Incidentally, the restaurant also owns Rex Bar in Postboutique Hotel in the city centre.
