Transformation from a Doldrum Pub to Michelin-Starred Gem
The Pipe & Glass was originally a 15th-century gatehouse and later a pub that had fallen into decline by 2006. When James and Kate Mackenzie bought it, the kitchen was barely functional. They lived upstairs initially and completely revamped the place, turning it into a Michelin-starred establishment recognized as one of the best pubs in the UK within a few years.
Combination of a Michelin-Starred Restaurant and a Traditional Pub
Despite its Michelin star status, The Pipe & Glass maintains the atmosphere and offerings of a friendly village pub. It serves everything from simple sandwiches and pints to full Michelin-starred tasting menus, catering to a broad audience including vegetarians, vegans, and children.
Use of Onsite Gardens for Culinary Ingredients
The restaurant boasts extensive gardens with a 400-year-old yew tree and stunning views of the Dalton Estate. These gardens are not just for ambiance; they supply fresh herbs and produce directly to the kitchen, including wild garlic favored by the chef, integrating garden-to-plate freshness into their dishes.
