Taipei, Taiwan
From Michelin Guide
A bustling spot for home-style food, Ming Fu serves big portions best shared with friends and family. The signature ‘Buddha jumps over the wall’ must be pre-ordered; it’s a amber-coloured soup, simmered for five hours with chicken, pork, abalone, matsutake mushrooms, water chestnuts etc. The mullet tripe with fried garlic is crisp and perfect with drinks. There are only six tables so booking is highly recommended.
From Visitor Experiences
Ming Fu is a small seafood restaurant that was the surprise name among the 20 eateries recognized in Michelin's debut guide for Taipei. It received one star and was praised for its 'Buddha jumps over the wall' soup and braised chicken with pickled gourd.
To get a spot at one of its only six tables, diners are warned that reservations are vital.
The awards are part of Michelin's growing effort to broaden its appeal in Asia. In addition to Taipei, it now publishes guides for Japan, Hong Kong and Macau, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, and Bangkok.
One notable omission from the Taipei list is Din Tai Fung, perhaps Taiwan's most famous culinary export. The dumpling maker failed to win any stars, having to settle instead for a mention in Michelin's 'bib gourmand' category.
