Andermatt, Switzerland
From Michelin Guide
This restaurant high up on the Gütsch mountain (2 344m above sea level), after which it is named, can be reached on the Gütsch Express cable car – hop on at the lower terminus (departing from Andermatt railway station). Chef Markus Neff and his team, along with the restaurateur trio of Müller, Gruß and Neumüller, put their heart and soul into this venture. The best place to sit is on the spectacular terrace – you could even call it a viewing platform! And if the weather isn't playing ball, it's just as pleasant to sit inside. The decor is modern and simple, which is entirely in keeping with the no-nonsense culinary style and relaxed atmosphere. Markus Neff's classic cuisine encompasses dishes from French haute cuisine as well as more regionally influenced fare – the beef tartar is a must on the à la carte menu – and goes well with the wonderful wines. A tip for your journey back down to the valley: get off the cable car at the middle station and continue on foot – it's a great walk!
