Chakaiseki Akiyoshi
Paris, France

The Experience
From Michelin Guide
Unique in France, Chakaiseki Akiyoshi is the first restaurant devoted to the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Cha-kaiseki actually refers to the meal that is served with this beverage, while Yuichiro Akiyoshi is the chef’s name. Tucked away behind a suitably low-profile wooden façade, the omakase might include amberjack with ponzu jelly, tempura with grey shrimp bouillon, seabream marinated in a mix of sake, mirin and soy sauce and grilled over charcoal, sushi of mackerel, grilled salmon rice, miso soup with artichoke. Recipes that allow the super-fresh ingredients to sing, prepared in front of the client, assisted by his kimono-clad spouse. Each dish is an exquisite blend of colour and flavour, of visual artistry and zen spirituality. An exclusive, timeless experience in an interior inspired by authentic Japanese teahouses (seats only 16).
Unique Things
From Visitor Experiences
End-of-meal tea ceremony performed by the chef
- Chakaiseki Akiyoshi culminates the dining experience with a real tea ceremony, conducted in complete silence, where Chef Yuichiro Akiyoshi prepares matcha with slow, precise movements to evoke a meditative state for diners.
Ultra-intimate, chef-centered micro-dining
- The restaurant offers a micro-dining format with about 10 seats surrounding the chef at work; the evening typically starts at 8 PM and all guests are served at the same time, creating a calm, single-flow dining experience that feels almost ceremonial.
Sukiya-style interior crafted by Japanese carpenters
- The space is built and arranged by Japanese joiners specialized in Sukiya-style architecture, traditional tea-ceremony houses, giving Chakaiseki Akiyoshi a Kyoto-like ambiance that sets it apart from other Parisian restaurants.
